Halloween at Chez Riley-Pictures ahead

I love Halloween.  It has not been a big year for me to decorate though.  I have done a bit and here it is.  I hope we get lots of kids so I don’t have to eat all the candy.  Teehee! I can’t seem to synchronize the text with the pictures so you’ll have to do the hard work.

The whomping tree

I have had this tree for decades, long before the Harry Potter novels.  But when I read about the Whomping Tree, I knew this was its little cousin.  I have small ornaments for it but a couple of years ago,Lil Zen and I saw these that are made with wooden balls and I bought the 2 fish ones (Dracula and a Witch) at a Xmas deco store we visit every year on our road trip.  The fish are great, the Dracula looks like a female Elvis with fangs and a cape.  You also get the crystal gobbet filled with eye ball chocolates.

I made the cat poster that is on the back wall of this shelf.  I saw it in a magazine and had to try my hand at it.  I also made the teddy bear on the shelf above but it has nothing to do with Halloween.

I made the banner in the picture below.  It has Halloween characters ready for a party.  I bought the little witch doll years ago.  She had a very sweet face but only a few strands of hair, a crappy dress and both of her legs are sewn on such that she has 2 right feet.  She was very unloved.  So I gave her some red yarn braids, a spiffy hat, a dress of black velvet and i let her feet do their own thing.  I think she is so sweet.

The small quilt/wall hanging stays on my quilt rack all year until its time to shine.  I love the graphics and though it is hard to tell, the other blocks are houses.

The flag shown below is hanging outside today and tomorrow then it gets whisked away for another year. It is actually quilted. I made it by watching and copying videos from the Missouri Quilt Company.  I would have bought the pattern but it was not available.  I think I did a credible job of it although I redesigned the mummy because the one in the original looked like a cream pie.

So, welcome trick o treaters!  The only things missing are the carved pumpkins and we are doing them this afternoon so they will be fresh for tomorrow.  They can go bad so quickly.  Here are a couple from years past.

I hope you enjoy your Halloween.
