Some years ago, I sculpted humpback whale, orcas, and dolphins out of porcelain clay. I took at night class at the local high school. It was intended for kids who could not make it in school during the day but it was open to adults too. They were mostly great kids and I enjoyed the class. So here are a few pictures of some of my work from back in the day.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Spy hopperThis is a whale “spy hopping” which means he is sticking his head out of the water and having a look around. Humpbacks do this all the time. I used glass in the bottom of this and it melted in the cone 10 heat of the kiln, making very nice water.
Mother and calf orcasThe next photo is of a mother and calf orca. I could not find a glaze that suited their jet black color so I had to paint these after they were fired. The color is naturally orange.
The last photo is a dolphin. I was not well versed enough to make a particular type of dolphin or porpoise but the general body style is represented here.
I have had the humpback shown on top in storage for some years because the flippers were broken. Cliff fixed it for me yesterday and did a fine job. It is a joy to have it out on show again. I have one more large one that I need to get some coral for and then I will show him too.
