When I was 7 months pregnant, Mr. Zen went to South Dakota to bring his grandfolks, aunt and her children to California. Soon after they arrived here, they moved to Coos Bay,Oregon and that started our annual road trips to Oregon. Lil Zen turned 35 last week, so you know how long we have been making these trip. The grandfolks are gone now, his aunt is married to my brother by another family and they live in Gold Beach, Oregon. We will be seeing them in October when Lil Zen and I go on road trip. But this year it will be different.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Ever since we started going to Portland years ago, we have stayed at the International Hostel in the Pearl District. The area had been gentrified some years ago and is a trendy place to shop, eat, and enjoy. The hostel has a large hotel supporting the regular hostel experience, and two Victorian homes where we get a private room. I love to sit in the kitchen, with huge floor to ceiling windows looking out on the neighborhood and drink my coffee and eat the artisan breads that are delivered every day. I feel wealthy as I sit there, planning our day. But this year, we are going to stay in odd Airbnb offerings. There are mud huts, and tree houses, and yurts to be discovered.
We usually travel I5 or the 99 up through pot country and the redwoods. This year, we will be traveling other highways and hope to visit some hot springs along the way. I am not telling where these may be because Lil Zen doesn’t want them advertised, as if any of you are going to haul out to Ca for the hot water!
No firm plans have been made yet but I am pulling for going to the Oregon Caves and hitting every cheese factory on the way. I am relying mostly on Lil Zen to find adventures for us. I wouldn’t be able to make these trips without her guidance and hard work researching on the interwebs. I can hardly wait! We will be on the road from 10/7 until 10/17. 10/18 I go to a 3 day quilt retreat so I will be gone for 2 weeks.
