I have been trying to get a sourdough starter started.  I bought a mix on a road trip and decided to give it a try.  I have had no luck at all.  I wish I lived near someone who feeds theirs regularly and has cast off starter.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

My mother baked bread when I was a kid.  She made her dough and put it in an oiled bowl with a tea towel over it and set it on top of the TV to rise.  The tubes that made the TV work always put off a certain amount of heat and she used it.  Other times, she would put it in the oven, not turned on but the pilot light made it hold a small amount of heat.

Today, I have none of those options and my house is too cold for the starter to get a bubblin’.  I may have killed it by heat when I cooked kind of near it.  I was trying to use the pilot lights on the stove top.  I actually may have figured that one out.  The TV is about 2 inches thick and harbors no heat.  So that’s out.

I am going to give it another try starting tomorrow.  We’ll see if I have any luck this time.

Be safe and be well.
