Recipes change over time. People substitute one item for another to get fewer calories or lower fat.  I find the new one usually doesn’t taste the same which is not always bad.  But some recipes are just best left alone.  Come below for one that is my pet peeve.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I love Chex Mix.  It is a comfort food for me, like Mac and Cheese to some folks.  I make it often and always use cashews instead of mixed nuts.

If you read the current Chex cereal boxes for the Chex Mix recipe, you will be forgiven if it looks a little padded.  The new one calls for bagel chips and pretzels.  And garlic and onion powder.  It is titled The Original Chex Mix Recipe.  Bah!  Pooh!  I copied the original one into my first cook book, lovingly called the Hotel Christie Cook Book, in the early 70’s.  I have pages taken from it as it fell apart and now they live in page protectors in my current tome.  This is the real original recipe.

Chex Mix

1/2 cup butter

1 1/4 tsp Seasoned Salt

4 1/2 TBS Worcestershire Sauce

8 cups Chex Cereals (Wheat, Rice, Corn)

1 cup mixed nuts or more

Pre heat oven to 250 degrees.

Melt butter in microwave or pan on stove.  Add salt, sauce and mix well.  Combine cereal and nuts in roaster pan.  Pour butter mix over cereal, coat evenly.  Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper or put into large paper bag to cool.

It didn’t have no stinking bagel chips!  I had to laugh though when I looked up the image I used on the front.  That recipe is slightly different from mine, I used more of everything.  There were many variation recipes printed there too.  One had soy sauce.  One had taco seasonings.  There were even some from the 70’s that had pretzels and bagel chips, so I just have to suck it up.  LOL!

I hope you are all doing well, making snack foods that please you, and trying to weather the storm.

Be safe and be well.
