This evening on the way home from my favorite Mexican restaurant, we stopped at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and indulged. We don’t get donuts (that’s how I spell it) often, and its a damn good thing but it got me to thinking about donuts in general.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!Monday: Crimson Quillfeather/Tuesday: ejoanna/Wednesday: Caedy

Growing up in Los Angeles, Winchell’s was the big donut shop locally. They had great sweeties. We also had the Helms Bakery trucks that drove through the neighborhood everyday with fresh bread, cakes, cookies and donuts.
The Helms trucks are gone and so are most of the Winchell’s shops. We have Yum Yum but they are Yuk Yuk as far as I am concerned. There are small mom and pop bakeries that I buy from off and on, depending on the time of night I get the “must have donuts” munchies. The Kripsy Kreme shop is in Long Beach, some distance from me so I don’t get them often. They are relatively new in California. They are very popular. Once in a while is enough for me from them. They are very light and airy, good but not my fave. We also have Dunkin’ Donuts and some people make a big deal out of them. Bottom line is I like almost all of them and they sit on my bottom line for all to see!
Funny story about a donut shop here. It had a huge donut on top of the building with the name printed on it. When it went out of business, a taco shop set up business. They kept the donut, painted it to look like a clock, put hands on it and called the place “Taco Time”. I would have posted a picture but could not find one. Imagine that! It was so funny to see. That didn’t last and now it is a bagel store and the donut has been painted to look like a bagel. That at least is closer to its true self.
Tell us about your donut dreams or other snacky tails. Have a good day!
