DK Quilt Guild: Donations come in and go out.

I am known in my local circles as someone who takes donated fabric and orphan blocks and uses them to make donation quilts for who ever needs them.  Most of my quilts are small and go to children’s services but I also donate to the VA Hospitals when allowed to.  So this makes some folks look kindly on me when they are cleaning out their stash hoards.  They know I will use what I get because I try not to buy new.  I do buy at guild yard sales and the like, which I have missed this last year and more.

DK Quilt Guild is a place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a

better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too.

Would you like to write a future DK Quilt Guild diary?  We NEED writers! Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)... We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance. Please join in! Please volunteer within the comments or you can send Pam from Calif a kosmail.

A friend I used to work with sent me a ton o great fabric including quite a few charm packs.  There were 2 of these Riley Blake patterns, both similar and different, 20 to a pack so I used them to make this simple quilt and another like it but put together differently.  It is in the washer or I would have shown it here too.

I quilted this one with a series of spaces defined by curved lines and filled in with various patterns.  Some were drawn on from stencils, others just free motioned.  I used the same strips I made the blocks from for the binding, dead easy to fit since they were the same length as each block!  I swear the quilt is relatively rectangular even though the photo is wonky. I put the blocks all going the same way here, with the stripe in the middle going horizontally.  The other one is a basket weave pattern.  I think I like this one best but we’ll see when the other one is out of the dryer.

I just got a stuffed box, filled with goodies from one the kind ladies in this group and an offer from another so I have to show that I really do get things done. I am glad to have these two done so I can move on to another project.  I will be making a Carpenter’s Star, shown here from pinterest.  I probably will be buying fabric for it because I want bright batiks.  Mine will have 6 colors in the ½ square triangles.

I hope the Reed sisters are doing well.  I read that Sara was going to be moved out of ICU last week so am cheering for her recovery there enough to go home.

Be safe and be well.
