This one is my pond rehab project.  See below.

Itzl stands alert.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

All the plants are new so everything looks a little sparse.  You know how it is when you just plant your garden.  This is the largest pond, the bottom one.  In here, I have 3 water lilies, one pink, one purple and one red I think.  I will know soon since there are buds on each of them.  These will cover the surface with big lily pads very quickly, protecting the fish and keeping the algae in control.

4 fish in here

This is the middle pond.  There are 2 water lilies, one yellow and one orange, plus a red lotus and a dwarf cat tail.  I have never had a lotus so I am looking forward to seeing it.  The cat tail is just a blade right now but I am sure it will sprout quickly.  The star shaped plant you see is a papyrus.  Things look a little murky but I have put in a small filter that should have clear it up as the nitrogen cycle gets going.

4 fish in here too.

This is the top pond, the smallest.  It has no fish and gets clogged with vegetation roots that make it act like a big filter.  It will take a while for the roots to regrow so I am using other filters this year.

No fish, plants and roots only

I hope the fish all survive although a few get lost due to the cycle not being fully active.  It can’t get going without fish droppings and then it takes time to neutralize the ammonia and nitrites.  The city chlorinates the water to kill bacteria and I put beneficial bacteria in, so we are always at war.  It comes out even eventually.

I’ll update as the summer goes on and these bloom.  They ought to be beautiful.
