DK Quilt Guild: Christmas and Other Sewing

Our good friend Pam sent me some fabric from her stash when she cleaned her studio last year.  Among the treasures were two fabric sample collections, like the one shown below.

like this but in Christmas prints

I have no idea such examples were available.  There was not enough fabric to do much but they were perfect for these small pieces.  Very festive.  They were in black background and white.  I used both sets for trivets but did not get pix of the black ones. I wish I had.

DK Quilt Guild is a place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a

better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too.

Would you like to write a future DK Quilt Guild diary?  We NEED writers! Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)... We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance. Please join in! Please volunteer within the comments or you can send Pam from Calif a kosmail.

Here is the other one.  I put Insulbrite in them which makes them heat reflective.  They are 1 foot square.  They are not your standard Christmas prints which made me like them all the better.

Wonky picture, good trivet

I also made a block for our guild Prez’s quilt.  We make one every year for the Prez, and now Nancy must have 5 or 6 of them.  She has been pressed into service as our Prez for a long time and comes back between other ladies taking turns.  Really, no one wants the tough job of prez because she is so good.  I considered it before Covid but since then, have reconsidered and this new year I will be the door prize lady instead of workshops.  It will be great not to have to lug all the supplies to the workshops but instead just take the class!  Anyway, our quilt for Nancy this year will be a bookcase and each of us is making at least one book, 12 ½ in high.  I made this row of books and the cat as a bookend.  I wish that cat had been printed in the other direction too so I could have had one at each end but this is the best I could do.  I did leave seam allowance for it at the bottom.  Why is that important, see below.

My contribution to the quilt

I wrote in the names of the books BEFORE I stitched them together and then had to take out the ones that were written left to right because I forgot the seam allowance and the first and last letters were cut off, so “CALM SEAS” became “ALM SEA” and the “O” in Orchid was gone.  I had to replace the strips with the lettering on them and then sew them together, THEN letter them.  I am a boob!

I have an order for a new jeans purse from a BFF so I will get started on it this weekend, maybe.  There is no rush but I am between projects so this may be the best time.

Here, at the end, is another post of my Christmas quilt.  It hangs in my living room over a big print of Amsterdam.

May you be at home wherever you find yourself on Christmas.

How is your time going up to the holiday?  Show us what you have been working on-we are all interested.
