IAN: Thursday 7/7/2022 One of the Oldest Things I Own

If you remember the movie M*A*S*H, the hero arrives in a jeep at the beginning of the movie and leaves in it at the end, prompting a question if he had stolen the jeep, only to be told no, he brought it with him.  When I retired, it was a lot like that.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

When I left the business office fo the phone company, I took everything they have given me over 7 years and relocated it to my new position.  This included my desk chair and the above shown Amberg Model A-31 Sort All gadget.  I used it a lot over the years. When I retired 33 years later, I packed up all the stuff I had brought, put the boxes on my (newer) chair and wheeled it all out the door, into the sunset.

Bits and pieces of it show up here at home from time to time, dug up in some drawer.  So this sort all popped up yesterday and I had to google it to see what I could find out about it.  The most interesting thing to me was that is was made in 1957.  My husband wouldn’t be born until 1959.  I got this sorter in 1970, so it wasn’t new but still useful.  These original ones are available on ebay but a new version is sold at Wal Mart, called a Pendaflex, Plastic Sort-All Sorter.  It isn’t as cool as the old one but the idea lives on in plastic.

It isn’t valuable, I haven’t used it in years, but I put it back the the drawer to let Lil Zen deal with when I am gone because it is a memory of a time I was busy, useful, employed, and young.  Life moves on, brought back to the present by such reminders.

“Did she just steal that chair?”  “No sir, she brought it with her.”
