IAN: Thursday 2/8/2023 Seven Samurai Fish

I have 7 gold fish in one of my ponds.  They are the last survivors of setting the pond to rights after a mysterious die off of most of my fish.  It took me years to realize that the fill tube was resting in the water after all the years of being bumped around and it is made of copper.  The copper has deteriorated and was poisoning the water.  Once I pulled it out of the water, cleared all the ponds and plants and started new, I was able to finally restore this last one.  These current fish were the last I added that didn’t die and they became the 7 Samurai Fish.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

However, in the last couple of months, I have only had 6 come for breakfast.  I count them every day just to keep an eye on how they are doing.  I looked and found the 7th one a couple of times, far from the herd and not eating.  I was sure he was about to send his electricity to the cosmic pool and was not surprised when I didn’t find him again.

But, today, in the pouring rain, I was watching the pond and saw all 7 fish!  I was very shocked!  I don’t know why he has separated himself from his brethren and I don’t know what he is eating, but I was glad to see him.

The lives of gold fish are probably pretty small to most folks.  They are tiny in the big scheme of things but they bring me a lot of joy.  They don’t seem to fight among themselves, they don’t demand constant attention, they can survive quite a lot of neglect and temperature differences.  I like them!
