I have been working in the pond since I got over my cold. The left side in the largest container, 120 gallons I think. The middle is 80 gallons and the top is 40 gallons. Not a large area but home to 10 gold fish and a few plants.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

This is the largest container with 6 fish. The plant in the middle is a water hawthorn, very invasive. It sends out tons o seeds that all send out roots in no time. I keep them at bay. The flowers aren’t apparent in this photo but they smell wonderful. I have had this one about a year now. It will fill in the whole area quickly. The plants with the “ears” are water hyacinth, they bloom a lovely delicate fluffy purple flower. The blue pot holds a horsetail plant that I cut way back so it is not happy right now. The bright clump of plants in front of the blue pot are water lettuce. No flowers, but they multiply nicely and the roots serve as filters, catching debris and bugs. The edge of this picture is lantana which straddles the bottom and middle ponds.

This is the middle pond. The lantana hangs over here and blooms lovely purple flowers. The tall strands in the top middle are mini cat tails. They bloom a little plump cat tail that looks like mini corn dogs. They are cute. It stays small for this small space. In the large green bowl is the new water iris I bought a few weeks ago. The flowers were so pretty but now I will have to wait a year for more. That’s ok. The small green basket to the left is sprouting mini water lily pads. I got flowers from one last year but don’t expect any this year. I am surprised they are sending out lily pads.

Not much goes on in the top pond. It is the smallest and has a large kidney shaped planter in it that I filled with penny wort and mini papyrus this year. There are some water hyacinths too. It acts as the main filter for the middle pond, which stays very clear most of the time. It has come to a good balance. There are no fish in the top pond but the constant circulation keeps mosquitos from using it as a breeding ground. Plus anything that lands in there floats into the middle pond and gets eaten.

So this is what I have this year. Everything is beginning to grow. It will be lush in August. I hope you enjoyed the tour.
