IAN: Thursday 1/2/2025 Last 2024 Christmas Pix

I finally got some pix of the decor before I started to take it all down and put it away.  I hope to get started on it tomorrow, but then I hoped I would today.  All I did was sew today.  Pix soon of those endeavors.  Come on in for more of this kind of thing.

Behind the nut crackers are bubble lights that started with my grandmother but only a few of hers are left now.  I was pleased when I found some years ago that they still or again made them so I have replaced but kept the none functioning ones.  On one side of the fire  place you will see Scrooge.  He is a stocking that I have no idea of its origins but I love him.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I am actually quite taken with this little fake tree I bought last year.  It is the right size to fit on the hearth, the cats aren’t interested in the smell or ornaments, and it stays green all year in its box.  All the ornaments on this tree are unbreakable and as you can see, not your run of the mill things.  Here we have Marvin the Martian wishing Peace on Earth with Jack Skellington in a Santa hat and beard.  On one side is Betty Boop in a martini glass and the other side is a gorilla in a stocking.  They all make me smile every year that I put them up.

The top part of the little tree.

The Santa and Mrs Claus on the second shelf down were my grandmother’s.  The Santa is a bisque bobble head doll and Mrs Claus has that lace they used to use in ceramics that burned when fired and became ceramic too.  The plate and cup in the third shelf are from a sample run of a line of Dickens table ware that was never put into production by Department 56.  My bil gave me and my sister some of the pieces he had from the work.  They are gorgeous.

One of my bookcase units.

I like the scene on the third shelf with the lamp post and the truck.  The green star says “Meet me under the mistletoe” and on the side of the top shelf are two frogs with mistletoe.  The man is a Prince and the lady is naked with red lipstick and is hanging from mistletoe.  I wish they came out better.

Another of the book case units.

I made the sign and the bow with “brass” bells a couple of years ago.  The bells are painted glasses. The two little figures are a Santa playing a flute and a snowman with a gift, they are both sitting on packages.  They are more Dept56 goodies from my bil.

A wall shelf

That’s it for 2024.  Happy New Year and keep your powder dry.
