IAN: Thursday 10/13/2016 If there is any food left in Portland...

Its not my fault.  I swear, I tried to eat everything in the city but I only had 4 breakfasts and 3 dinners.

Lil Zen and I love to eat breakfast at almost anytime of day and planned to arrive about noon on Saturday of our road trip so we could eat at the Byways Cafe on Glisan St before we went to the Saturday market.  I love the laid back atmosphere at this breakfast/lunch cafe and it is close to our hostel, which is at 19th and Glisan.  It was a yummy way to come onto town.  Then we went to the Saturday market where I bought my annual allotment of summer dresses, this year being 3.  I never find them here for some strange reason.

We had dinner Nob Hill Bar and Grill in the Pearl district after coming back from watching about a million swifts (little birds) amass around a huge chimney and all fly into it at sunset.  That was kind of like watching the bats go into the caves in Texas.  The bar was on our way back to the hostel and although I don’t usually think of a bar as a restaurant, it was delicious.

We had dutch pancakes at Sanborn’s the next morning.  They were deep bowl like pancakes with fresh fruit.  The restaurant is around the corner from Sara and Ann of Pootie Pad fame and I dropped off 2 quilts for the VA donation they help with every year.  The repairs to the house are on going and they will be so glad to have it all done.

That night, we had killer Japanese food at Yama Sushi and Sake Bar.  They had beautiful sushi but we are not fans of that, we like teriyaki.  The dinners included salad, rice, tempura shrimp and veggies.  We were able to hand hot a full hot meal to a person in need.  It was wonderful.

I will give no mention on our breakfast the next day.  It was not typical of the great food we expect.

That evening, we went to the Driftwood Room in the Hotel Delux, at ritzy downtown hotel.  The draw was their macaroni and cheese with five different cheeses.  Lil Zen was intrigued.  It was excellent and so was my flatbread with mushrooms and cheese.  It was a lovely place to spend some time, quiet and warm.  We would go there again.

We lastly went to Broders on the way out of town and had aebleskivers with lemon curd and lingonberry sauce.  The food the is Swedish and yummy.

I love to eat in Portland and find new experiences each year.  We shopped, walked a lot, went to the Kennedy School hot tub and all of Powell’s book stores but we did all that in between eating.

I am on a diet for a few weeks now.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
