IAN:Thursday 1/30/2025 Temporary new sewing machine

That picture title sounds like the “and Bob’s your Uncle” kind of set up but this Brother machine is on loan to me from my sister.  She bought it a few years ago to make curtains and I ended up doing that for her, using this machine while my Viking was in the shop.  I don’t remember any problems with it and I have started to use it. It is to be said that it is an inexpensive machine and a good deal for simple piecing and quilt construction, if not actual quilting.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

The whole machine is only 15 ins long and on my Viking the distance from the needle to the inside curve of the throat is 10 ins so you can imagine the difference if I were to quilt on it.  It weighs nothing and would be wonderful to take on a quilt retreat where I don’t do my best work and don’t need my best machine.  I feel like I did with the Easy Bake Oven I had as a kid that baked cookies with a light bulb though. It is a little noisier but the Viking was pretty darn noisy.  I read comments when I was looking for a new one and most people had the 3 same complaints. 1) The needle threader doesn’t work for very long. 2) The inside thread cutter doesn’t work for very long.  3) It is quite noisy for a Viking machine.  All are true but they are not deal breakers for many of us.  I do hope to get a new one soon.

The top is the desk is sporting the new peel and stick tiles.  The last ones were black marble with white streaks so this beige stone is very different.  I bought it a few years ago and just got to it now because I didn’t have a machine sitting there.  I like it and it is the last time I will have to resurface it.

Last news happened as I was writing this.  The skate board wheels I ordered arrived and tomorrow Bill will put them on that red desk chair you see in the picture.  The casters on it now don’t roll for beans and I saw some videos of people changing them out to skate board wheels.  The fixtures are the same for both and the casters pop off so the skate wheels can be popped in!  I should be arolling maniac tomorrow!  I’ll let you know.
