I made this atc years ago . I like the myth of a woman being born fully grown, in armor, from inside her father’s head. It would seem that without television, people spent a lot of time making their religions interesting, at least the Romans and the Greeks.
Athena translates from the Greek mythology to the Roman in the form of Minerva. She is the Goddess of Wisdom and strategic warfare.
The Goddess Minerva is shown on the seal of California. I point her out the folks while the witnesses are signing the marriage forms. Most people glance at the seal and think it is a soldier there by the sea, but NOOOOO! Here is the seal in a color print from the California Department of Education. The text that goes with it says Minerva was chosen because she was born full grown without being a child and California became a state without being a territory. Okay, a bit of stretch for me but they didn’t ask me. There is an engraved copy of the wall of the chapel but it does not delineate her as well as this print.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. There are odd things about the seal, like a building that no one is quite sure about. I chat with the couples and tell them when their legal copy of the marriage certificate comes in the mail, it will have the seal on it. I suggest they might want to look it up online and see just what is represented there. And I wonder if any of them do.
