IAN:Thursday 8/24/2017 A Night at The Theater

I went to this theater to see Garrison Keillor last night.  I was not prepared for the grandeur of the building!  It is an amazing edifice, built in 1927 as the premier movie house for United Artists.  They showed silent films here before talkies.  Our seats were left of stage in the orchestra pit 7 rows from the front.  They were great seats but I think I would go to the balcony if I went again.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Painting but I could not find info about it.

The style is Spanish Gothic.  It was strangely lit though and hard to see the details.  I would love to see more of it in real light.

After it was a movie house and before it was the Ace Hotel and Theater, it was the home of Eugene Scott’s ministry.  That figures!  It is way over the top and so was he.  But eventually the building was bought and renovated to become the stylish hotel, with a pool on the roof, and highly rated restaurant and and concert venue.

Garrison Keillor was wonderful, as always.  he is 75, all gray, and I realize I need to see him as often as I can now because he is not getting any younger and neither am I.  Unlike this magic building, no one will buy us when we are run down and refurbish us for new use.

At intermission, we stood at our seats and sang a capella with him. We sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and America the Beautiful, and This land is Your Land. He made a few not so veiled references to the twitwaffle and they were clever and scathing. He did two radio shows, a few commercials, and his own lyrics to well known hymns, usually uproariously funny.  I enjoyed his show greatly.

PS: Lil Zen just called from Redding and will be home tomorrow.  She said the eclipse brought her to tears watching it.
