IAN: Thursday 7/18/2019 Just Like in the Movies

Do you remember the Star Trek episode where the resident of the planet only spoke in metaphors? It was called “Darmok”.  I loved the idea of communicating that way and realized that we actually do that when we quote movie lines to each other in situations where they describe it so well.  Here are a few of my personal ones and I bet you can add a few of your own.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Lil Zen says that I make my mash potatoes into the Devil’s Tower, like in Close Encounters. Mz. Picky wants her gooey cat food to be scraped into the same shape 2 or 3 times while she is eating it.  I tell her “This is important.”  She doesn’t remember the movie.

We use “You can’t handle the truth.” more often than you might think.  And “Are you talking to ME?” is a big hit when you want to get out of doing something someone else asks you to do.

Trying to get the balky garage door to open- “Open the pod bay doors, Hal”.  “I’m sorry Dave, I can’t do that” is sometimes the answer although “Dave’s not here”.

The uses for “Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a damn.” are numerous beyond count. Actually, that movie has tons of quotable/usable lines like “I don’t know nothing about birthing no babies!” and “Tomorrow is another day.”

Another one that gets tossed around here often is “Push the button, Max.”, especially after Mr. Zen has muted the commercials on tv and now the main show is back.

Tell us some of your fave uses of movie lines.
