Last week end, my Saturday breakfast companion and all around best buddy and I went to the annual Fern, Exotic and Cactus show and sale at the L.A. Arboretum. The picture above is the cottage that the original property owner for one of his daughters. Lucky Baldwin owned almost all the land in the area. You can find lots of info about him on Wiki. The grounds of the arboretum are beautiful.
The place is filled to the hubcaps with peacocks! Here is one with his tail fully opened, showing off for us, the tourists. Here is another who just couldn’t be bothered with us, tail flat.
Such a pretty display taking a break from strutting As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!Monday

Here is the side view of the cottage. I think it has something like 7 or 9 bedrooms but no kitchen. The food was cooked in another building and brought in. I seem to remember this info from some past tour but can not find anything definitive.
the side viewWhile at the show, we bought a few plants for our gardens. How could you not? I bought this bromeliad. It had tiny lavender flowers in the centers. This plant has at least 3 stalks so we will split it.
great colors little flowers in the water cup Zebra rush in front, papyrus in backThe plant in the front, tall thin reeds of white and green bands, is called a zebra rush. It is a bog plant, wants to be in shallow water, and is right at home in my pond. I know its hard to see.
The plant below is an air plant. One this size costs about $3 at the farmer’s markets and i got one about 6 times this size for $5 at the show. I was able to separate it into 6 plants and will be putting them all in shells in the garden. Maybe I will string them as a wind chime type hanging.
We enjoyed the day even though it rained. Neither of us melted so it was fine.
Check in below. Tell us how you are.
