IAN:Thursday 3/1/2018 Coffee cups I have known and loved

I know we all collect things as we go along.  Some are useful and others are memories made solid.  I have been decluttering for a while and realize I am not all that successful about it at the oddest moments.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Sometime last week, I lost my coffee cup somewhere in the house.  I knew I had just set it on a shelf in my travels.  It does not go in my car and was not in the garden so I knew that it would turn up.  But after 3 days, I decided to choose another cup from the “few” I had stashed in the upper cabinet to use as my everyday cup.

When I got up into the cupboard (a place to board your cups) I found tons o mugs.  Here a just a few.

mama and grandma cups

These were my mother’s and my grandmother’s mugs.  Gari was my mother, Gene was my grandmother.  Grandma was a waitress, as they called them in her day, all her life and did well at it.  This cup was made for her by the people at the Santa Lucia restaurant for her birthday.  She had the same company make one for my mother.

The next two are Gary Larson cups with two of my fave jokes.

You have to love Gary Larson

I think that there will be a bit of a space between some of this text and the pictures.  I can’t seem to figure out how to do this correctly.  But anyway, here is the Dial a Cat cup and the next one is Dammed if you do, Dammed if you don’t.

But the last one is the one I ended up choosing.  It was given to me back in  the day by a near and dear friend.  She gave me the cats and she had one with penguins.  I remember there were dogs, rabbits, elephants, and others.  They were popular for a while at the office but then they all disappeared around the same time; political correctness entered and we looked at them differently.

This mug made me laugh when Kellie gave it to me long before Mr. Zen gave me a wedding ring.  It has held its place with all the others and now will make me laugh occasionally.  It is a happy memory now made useful again.

It’s one or the other.

My original cup, which I got at a convenience store in Hawaii with coupons on the receipts for coffee, turned up finally. I was never that thrilled with it but I used it until prodded to do better. It was in the microwave, filled with coffee.  I guess I meant to heat and drink but dropped and forgot.  Gee, I bet that never happens to you.

“Just lots of good will and maybe one small thrill But there's nothing dirty going on.”
