My version of Dublin Steps

I have been looking at quilt blocks in older quilting books and they are big into using templates.  Personally, I don't like templates for the most part.  So I have been reverse engineering the blocks to make them from 2 1/2” strips or 5” and 10 “ cuts.  The instructions are frequently not using the most up to date tools either, so I have been having fun recreating them.

I find that it is easy to make the blocks, but very

The sheep look more like blobs on legs but they are cute

difficult to write the directions.  I have a new one that I just finished yesterday and printed.  We exchange patterns in our friendship groups so I want to have a few done to join. This is the first one I did to write the directions from. Today I am going to follow the directions and see if I wrote it right.

I finished this quilt yesterday.  2 of the ladies in my friendship group are still making the blocks and one has finished the top and has sent it to the quilter.  I do my own machine quilting now, not that its very fancy.  At least I can finish my quilts and get them out to the children or veterans that need them.  I showed this top before I quilted it in an earlier diary I think.  But here is the new picture.  And I am posting a picture of the back because the directions were so bad that I was left with so many leftover strip sets that I was able to make the back with them and the rejected sheep blocks that were too dark and the heart blocks I didn’t like the background on.  So it all went to this quilt with no

All the leftovers plus a little bit of filler

leftover bits!

I want to make this pattern again but substitute flowers for the sheep and make it hearts and flowers.  I am looking for the right applique pattern for it but am busy with other things in the meantime.

So what are you up to today?

Close up for all that fine quilting detail.  (teehee)
