I tried to contact my friend who has a charming bed and breakfast inn in Calistoga to see if she had an open night for sometime between 7/22 and 9/1 for lil zen and I to come up for an overnight trip. My email was rejected, and eventually I found an obituary for her passing in Feb, 2021. I was so saddened and surprised. She was 4 years younger than I am. The obit was lovely but no memorial was held due to covid. I had spoken to her just before the lock down, while we were on our last road trip. So sad to lose her.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!

But on the gaining side, Bill gained 4 lbs and his doctor was happy with the small progress he is finally making. It has been very hard for him. He is beginning to get a little movement in his jaw and we hope for more as time goes on. His work status time off has been extended until Nov 1st. I am sure his company is going to have something (not good) to say about that but he is not planning to go back anyway.
One of the water plants I put into the pond a few weeks ago is a water lettuce. Since I put that one in, it has made 3 new female babies and there are 4 or 5 on the top of the mother plant. Here is one now.
This plant has great roots for filtering the water and it reproduces two ways. It makes little female plants like the one shown here sticking out on its own stem. It will break away and start new plants. The mother plant also produces plantlets on top of it and they grow out from there, making large masses of them. They only live one summer and I am grateful for that because they would over run the place in no time but they are very easy and useful in a pond. I am still working on clearing the largest pond but it is getting better.
