I bought 6 teaks chairs from a gentleman on Facebook Marketplace for $50. You see them as they were when I brought them home. They needed "work” but were still a good deal for teak deck chairs.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I started stripping them so they could be teak oiled and sit out on my little deck. After struggling mightily, I got one completed and parts of 2 others done. The grayer one here is the one I got completed but I left it out in the elements over the last year and it oxidized. I resanded it before I oiled it. The lighter beige one was one of the other 3 that my man Cliff stripped. He did a good job of them.

These 2 have been stripped but you will notice a difference in the color. The darker one was the one I did last year and it had oxidized over the last year outside without oil. I sanded it lightly before oiling this time. It looked closer to the lighter color of the other one.
I oiled these 2 and they are ready to go out to the deck. Bill stored them in his garage until they dry completely and said boy, did they stink! I got a 3rd one done the next day. Bill fixed a broken slat on the 4th chair and oiled it so now they are all done.

I have 2 left in the original condition, as shown in the front page photo. I am going to offer them on my free group but do not expect much excitement. They are quite a bit of work to strip but I feel they were worth the time and money. Having Cliff strip them had 4 good outcomes. 1) I was just not up to all the work but wanted these chairs and he did them. 2) His job assignments had slowed and he was grateful for the money. 3) Getting them stripped let me get them oiled and not just sitting outside looking grim. 4) It had the added benefit of getting Bill to stop asking when I was going to get them done. It was a win-win all around.
I looked online for similar chairs, but new, and the prices ran from $200 each. An antique set of 2 chairs and a bench was $2400, in the same bad condition as the ones I got. A new set of 6 chairs went for almost that much too. Mine are not in new condition. They have splits in the wood in quite a few places and one slat was broken in half although repaired and all attached. Oiling the stripped ones will preserve them for the rest of my life and the Lil Zen will put them on her free group. LOL!!
I hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving holiday whatever form that may take. We will gather at my sister’s and enjoy the day together. If I had the power of a wish come true, I would wish that for everyone.
